I DID IT. September 6, 2009. A day to remember.
Great weather abounds.
Yesterday was a day I have waited all summer for.
I got Geo to go-with on a early morning skatepark adventure.
He had a gas. He did new things... scared himself and overcame it...
AND THEN... we went for more "dad throwing himself off the ramp trying to drop-in" time...
after I did my turn at not-getting it... Little Geo (not so little now) hopped up, fell once...
and then got it on his second try.
He went on to do it four times last night ... and I was so proud!!!
Mostly, though... I was excited ... excited about seeing Geo get excited about his abilities on a skateboard.
Today was ... another early morning skatepark moment.
Geo and I spent 2 and 1/2 hours at the park and really got in some great skate time.
We came home... hit the ramp... and after ringing my bell three times (thank god for helmets)...
I actually got it. (see video). Truly a grand thing. :)
Now... of course, I have to do it, like a hundred times... before I can truly establish the muscle memories required to actually own it!!
~ shorts and a smile.
~ to bask in the glory of this day. :D
~ you could feel what I feel... well, ok... get the porno out of that... and read it again. :D
Happy birthday to a lovely and distant woman... perevodilka! May the year reward your happiness with peace.
And happy birthday to amythyst. I hope you have had a lovely birthday... and I hope that I will always be able to find you. :)
So after 16 (SIXTEEN!) attempts... (over ten days)
acknowledging that the failures ... all sixteen of them... were failures to master my fear...
as opposed to any actual failure to know how to do something...
... and on the absolute heels of three wipe outs (one of which is here for your viewing enjoyment)
I finally FINALLY FINALLY FREAKING FINALLY got it.
Then I ran up and "got it again"...
... and then I retired to the family room to break out the ice packs.
For the casual journal observer... that wipe out is a great laugh. :D
For my long time lj friends... you have got to understand... this is huge.
The actual "doing" of this... is like 15% skateboarding ... and 85% overcoming terror - a terror that is made greater with every painful wipe out.
And I have been gearing my forty seven year old self up for this ... for two solid years.
acknowledging that I needed to ... and then going through with regular gym work to get by body and, especially my knees,
in shape enough to recover from the wipe outs required to get here...
... just... this is a red f$%king letter day in the life and times of me.
I am very happy. :)
~ see ya soon. :)
