Thursday, October 2.

It's a dark, cold and totally dismal day.
Ed woke up feeling ill...
So he's gone back to bed and the school has been phoned.
Suz is off to work to gather up what she can "do from home"
and I'll take off when she gets here...
Then it'll be ... just another day.

wearing
~ dark day... weather and clothing.
~ no tie.
planning
~ well... to go to work...
~ except I wont be doing that for a little while...
wishing
~ for good things to come on heels of big decisions for shebear
~ and that big plans... work out for talashandy (if you're all smartypants about how an american gets to work in canada... explain in a comment here...)

///
I am canadian.
and I will vote in our federal election.
There's a little guy in his bed upstairs, sick-home-from-school ...
I owe it to him.

Funnily enough... (in case you didn't know)
There's an election in the US this fall too.

Who do you "owe it to"?

//
Watching the Season Premie of Dexter last night...
I was transported back to a grade six class room in Forth Worth, Texas.
My parents were on a business trip to Houston and we had family friends that lived in Dall/FW.
They took me with... and dropped me in FW where I hung with their son-the-same-age-as-me for a week.
I bought my first skateboard... G&S Fiberflex, Tracker Trucks, Powerflex 5 wheels.
I still have that skateboard... I still skate on it.
That was thirty four years ago.
I shot a gun.
Several, in fact.
We went to their "Land"... after visiting the hardware store and buying a bunch of amo.
Springfield 30oddSix. It had a scope... Coke Can at 100 feet. Awesome.
Magnum 357... six shots... turned three soaking wet, tape wrapped phone books... into confetti.
They had horses... in the "Land across the street".
Rode bareback for the first time... Horse was called "pepper".
Pepper got spooked and I ended up holding on to Pepper's neck, hanging under his chin... while he galloped. It was scary.
But the thing about the trip that made the biggest impression on me... on my perceptions as an 11 year old?
After all that other stuff....
Was going to the kids school with him... and seeing the map at the front of the class.
The same map was on the wall in the class room in Dexter when he did the "dad day" at the little guys school.
Canada is a giant, formless, province-less, PINK BLOB... with the word "CANADA" across the middle.

Note that in Canadian class rooms... the map of North America includes a comprehensive review of the United States, with state boarders, capitals, lakes, rivers and mountains...
Just say'en...
"Hola from the big pink blob."

/
It's like... I'm holding the world with both hands...
When I let go... it spins wildly and almost out-of-control...
So I slam my hands out and grab it again.
That's me... right now... holding on.
~ and I think I'm ok with that... for now.

:D) See ya soon.
