Dear people who are geekily in love with Ubuntu...

Problem with video.
On an older Dell C800 with this 16 meg ATI "Rage Mobility 128"

Ubuntu looks gorgeous... except the video is three bands up/down the screen showing only the left 1/3 and the right 1/3 of the screen. The middle is gone. The video tab *(wicked hard to find... trial and error... cause I can't see the menus - that pop up in the middle third!!! - gah!) only offers 640x480 and 800x600 on a "generic monitor". I'm pretty sure this laptop monitor can handle 1024x768 or ever 1280x1024... ug.

I found the envy script but it crashes trying to build the aticonfig executable... and I don't think that script actually installs a driver compatable with this old ati dog... ???

Any clues out there in Ubuntu land?
