Great morning. :)
Waking up on time helps.
The "gangs all here" picture is almost complete... I really needed to get suzanne into the picture. We have Geo, Ed and Purrrrcy in this one. :)
The sun is up and brilliant... although it's damn cold. (brrrr)
And... and I just wish I could work from home all week.
I would get so frigging much more done. sigh.
Sadly... it's shirt and tie... roads, parking lots, elevators and ... my ugly cubicle and the horrible "go to sleep NOW" air that blows on me all day long. ug.

I often bemoan the pathetic commitment that Canada has made in Afghanistan ... and look to our losses... the loss of so may young lives, as proof positive that this is a stupid engagement in a world gone mad... especially when there are so many people in the world that are more deserving of help... let alone, in dire straights. And then I read a comment on US losses in Iraq. Canada has lost 42 people in Afghanistan since 2003. The US lost 50 in Iraq over the last two weeks. Geezus.
Oh... and there's a little nugget of data floating around out there... something about 650,000 Iraquis dead since this all started. Is that possible? Is that even close to right? 650,000? How does George Dubbya sleep at night?

There's a new Bun in the oven. Ok ... fine... a new Ban. Ban Ki-moon, to be exact... and the "oven" here is the United Nations.
The Secretary-General "designate" is Ban Ki-moon... set to replace Kofi Anan.
Okay... I mean... the world is pretty focused on the big issues in Afghanistan, Iraq and ... sadly inattentive to Darfur... or Chechnya, let alone Tibet. But a new Secretary-General will help right? Where's he from? What might dominate his "issue list"???
Oh... he's from South Korea.

If you don't look out for you...
Who, exactly, are you expecting to do it?
... and when they let you down, then what?
Life is a lot like that training card in "the pocket behind the seat in front of you" on the airplane.
It tells you to put that mask on yourself first.
Then ... now that you're not busy dying... put the masks on your kids, or help your neighbor.
Job one... however, is to take care of you.
If you're going to help someone else... at least be on your game when you do it.
K... see ya. :)
