Listens: Four Non Blondes - What's Up

Thursday, January 12

Totally mild out there... which would be considering FREEEEZING COLD if this were October. :D
However... it means the ice on the edges of my laneway will melt (a little salt helps that).

I have no idea if it's sunny or not... no windows here in cubeland. :)

We had a nice calm and organized wake up today... showers for suz and I and the boys dressed, fed, teeth brushed and out the door on time... and I even managed to get to work on time!! :) The point? I cannot imagine what it will be like when the boys want showers in the morning. We'll be in the new house by then... but I'm thinking seriously about having them use the higher capacity hot water tank. :(

Something I said to a friend earlier today:

remember that there are only two ways to live your life.
work to live
or
live to work.
one way rewards your boss.
the other rewards you.

who deserves the reward?
how many lives are you going to get?

Observations:
1. hundreds of muslims die in a crowd that goes wild celebrating a spiritual holiday while they pelt rocks at some representation of a devil... !!!
Hacks another notch on the great big stick of "why organized religion is stupid" reasons. What was it last year... oh yeah... a big ass bridge collapses under a vast sea of people on a pilgrimage. Geez.
2. Gun conversations with gun owners who are also advocates for a "gun in every pocket" mentality... often come back to my comments about guns and kill'en statistics with a few choice words about KNIVES and "how many people were killed by knives?" and "you can bet that number will go up..."
Let me draw your attention to the entire concept of a gun. It's a little thing called "disassociative impact".
A knife is dirty. You gotta do the pushing... the wiping off of blood and get in close while the victim (or the "assailant" because, you know, it's all about self protection) spurts out blood.
A gun is a distance weapon letting the weak and pussy like stand in the lobby and fire rounds into the crush of employees in the back room... on the other side of that drywall... Little Johnny can pop six bad asses in the school yard with Dads pistol without ever stepping off the play structure. And he does not't have to wash his hands when he's done his kill'en.

So Angelina Jolie is preggers... and the father is Brad Pitt? Dude... can you imagine? It's gonna be a seven pound pair of lips that can kick the snot out of all the other babies at the daycare!! (and how many times will you see "womb raider" in big white letters?)

a little bit about me.
I live in a sub-urban community with my wife and children. We can walk to my mother in laws house (my FIL passed on a couple of years ago, may he rest in peace) or to my brother in laws house. It's a five minute drive to my mom and dads house and to my sisters-in-law's houses. (how do you pluralize that?) and it's a ten minute drive to my brothers house. My sister and her main squeeze live somewhat further away but still... it's only a 30 minute drive. My extended family has only fully come together for a couple of occasions besides our wedding, but we do have family dinners with one side or the other of the family coin at least every second week. There are no open rivalries in our families... not one. In fact, my brothers ex wife is still completely integrated into our family get togethers... and his new partner has no problem with this. :) All together there are ten nieces and nephews in the mix... counting our kids. Grand total... immediate families only... there are 25 of us.

Family. It is a wonderful thing.

K, time to jet.
see ya. :D
