Monday, May 3...

Lovely little X up there huh... (all better now) we'll see if I can get my server restarted and cross my fingers that my ISP can hold pppoe up after that. In the two years I've been with www.magma.ca this is the first real trouble they've had so I shouldn't be judging them too harshly... but I do hate it when things don't work!

We played at there.com for a bit last evening... then went down to watch Alias at like... maybe 11:00. The show ended... we were pretty comfortable on that sofa...
*blink* 2:00am and tv is making weird noises... so I wake up enough to turn it off...
*blink* 4:00am... we wake up ... and shlep ourselves upstairs... turning off the house as we go... and fall into bed.
Clearly I did way way too much this weekend.
I need to be more sloth like... at least if I'm ever going to get a handle on feeling rested.
Note: that "sloth like" goal... never going to happen. Life... exhausted. It's like a sentence... in the "20 to life" form of the term.
:D

Ah well... if you could see the picture... you'd see me smiling.
The sun is shining... it's damn cold,
but that will change as May turns into later-in-May...
and things always seem to improve...

Not sure how I'm going to say all this...
It's in my head... and I want to make it come through my fingers...
It's about the big ass story in the news lately with the American soldiers in Iraq and the prisoners...

Let me start by saying I think the whole Iraq thing is a mess... I was against it when it was in the works, and right through... my reasons have never changed. It's a battle fought against a sick bunch of fucking psychos over a delusional issue... with nothing more complicated than money in the background.  That, however, remains secondary to the issue at hand.

At issue is the thing in the press about the trophy photos and the actions that those trophy photos are recounting. Unfortunately, it would take an essay of dramatic length to formally address those issues.  Even if you don’t factor in the way the news media are selling the story.  So I'm going to try and be succinct yet clear... and that, as you might guess, is a tricky business.

The victims of psychological torture in those photos are bona fide prisoners of war being set upon by the army they are fighting in a battle that rages on as I type... To what purpose this torture is performed is unknown and, almost irrelevant.

The torture meted out by the oppressive regime that was toppled by the war in Iraq was, as has been well and truly documented to hell and back over the past decade, torture of an entirely different sort.  Those were stories of soccer teams who's feet where whipped useless for not wining a match... of women brutally raped unto their very deaths and beyond... of families smote to hushed memories at the whim of an insane son to an equally insane dictator.

The hacking off limbs... the bloody rapes... the reckless punishment... and the outright murder of untold thousands of civilians by their leaders does not in any way compare to the psychological torture dealt prisoners of war... regardless of the arguments for or against that war.

It is being executed under the harshest of conditions by men and women that are our friends, families, neighbors and countrymen... performing duties in the sworn service of their country.

Considering the circumstances of their vast numbers and daily buffet of death, the fact that some bad apples turn up is of no shock and less dismay.  I have no sympathy for the Iraqi agent provocateur carrying the flame of fires set by misguided clerics but I do have it in abundance for the soldiers that are trapped in this hell on earth.

I say we should get back to work convincing someone to stop this war and a pox on the assumptions made in deriding how the battlefield mechanics of war are carried out...  especially as a comparison to how Iraqi citizens were treated before all this foolishness began.
