morn'en Lj...

So, no pic today... do you know how long I've been doing this? The morning post thing? It's kinda feaky.... and I love that there are friends that actually read it. Well, I hope to have the system up before I sleep tonight... if that means I have to drive my buddy luker crazy... well, thats the price you have to pay... (ok ok ... just kidding luc!)

Um, if there was any question before, the light is clearly shining on just why they are called the Agolden globes@... wowzers.

~ gray ftls
~ dk/gray dress pants...
~ the big dk blue turtleneck.
~ ug... well I have some heavy stuff to get done with client #1 this morning...
~ have to do a presentation to client #2 this aft...
~ so there'll be some running around town to be done.
~ well, the obvious... that my systems came up more readily last night...

Normal talk:
thbings didn't work the way I expected them to (d'uh) so now I need to bang away at it for a while to find the issues and resolve them.

Geek talk:
Essentially, I just need to spend more time banging away at the services on the server. "pppoe" is not starting up on during the boot sequence but will start manually (and yes I've linked a start-up script - however I put it in rc3.d as S06 in redhat 7.2) and I can't keep "ipv4 forwarding" to stay "true", although /etc/sysconfit/network includes the appropriate line element.
I haven't even started to deal with bind or sendmail... let alone apache.

Late Lj Birthday Baby...

Happy Late Birthday damny

(sheesh... I'm two days late on this... sorry sugar!)

Although I've only known Dany for a short time... she has really struck me as a good friend in lj land... always has a kind word and writes readable stuff in her journal. You should know her. (and she's a texas girl!!!)

I hope you have a wonderful year and may you find treasures in all the unlikely places.

Happy Birthday to you... Happy Birthdaty to you... Happy Late Birthay dear Dany, Happy Birthday to you!

just some things...

Ebay (via a courier) tried to deliver our new camera on Friday... my fingers are crossed that it arrives today... If it comes via regular mail then there is little chance that you can avoid the duty... but with courier companies you do sometimes get away with the whole "gift" thing.

I installed the firewire port yesterday on Z's computer so we'll be burning cd's of the movies we make... and I'm looking forward to posting some little video moments. :D

snow squeaks under foot
snow pants swish and children laugh
everywhere, laughing

Ed wound: While reaching for the cat yesterday afternoon Ed missed the cat and managed to catch his needs-to-be-clipped nail on the very tiny edging of the front panel on the dishwasher... result: it ripped half his nail off... you know, right down into the middle of his tiny little finger... it freaking hurt like shit... this was made obvious by the very serious hand waving and rapid fire cries that instantly erupted from my little guy. We washed it, froze it under cold water... then put "magic powder" (Medicated BFI powder - no idea but this stuff is magic) and Band-Aid on it.... it bled like crazy.

Ed and the Cat:

Edward has this thing about our cat, Buster. He wants to play with her. No, I mean he wants her to play kitchen, play board games, lego... want's her to do stuff... But he's decided that she spends too much time using all four legs to walk and therefore can't play well with lego and stuff.... Sooooo, the current job for Ed is teaching Buster to walk upright. In this pursuit, he will grab the cat under her forelegs and below her wee chinny chin chin and lift so the cat looks like some kind of crucified furry thing, and walk her around the house...
Dress up with the cat is more successful... Ed puts all manner of costumes on the cat.
What is amazing is that the cat puts up with this stuff...

ok, back to work.

and he's off...

closing up this desk for the day and heading off to another...

Next stop? good coffee and rehearsing a big ass speech with colourful slide show... yea...

OH!!!! chineelle (*I CANNOT SPELL THAT... it sounds like shen-eel*) is so comfy to wrap up in...

three things:

~ bow ties get a bad wrap... I've seen two so far today that looked really good in semi-casual business attire... (oh shit... am I ever turning 40 soon)
~ cinnamon is under utilized... I love cinnamon...
~ and people should start using scissors more as a food prep item... pizza on the kids plate... "George? Do you want that in bite sized pieces?" "yup" chop chop chop ... done!!!! We keep a separate pair of scissors just for cutting up food.

holy snert...

talking non-stop for an hour and half to a room with 20 tech managers and geeks is about my limit... Our little show & tell went very well... now it's up to the sales geeks to close some business. (not holding my breath).

I have a little white and blue book with a flying Cricket on it... (O'Reilly "DNS and Bind")

must make servers work tonight....

K, this is going to sound really goofy... but I just packed a few minutes into reading up some of my friends posts from this aft...

My tea's gone cold, I'm wondering why I got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window and I can't see at all
And even if I could it'd all be grey, but your picture on my wall
It reminds me that it's not so bad, it's not so bad

I just wanted to send an enormous virtual hug out to ya'll 'cause (as my texan friends would say) all y'all really deserve it. So many good and wonderful people that put up with virtual silliness (me) and challenging real world lives... and still manage to find the time to share some love'en here and be friends...

Don't ever ever forget... it's hard to make friends... but it's harder to be a friend.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. :D

Homeward bound... later skaters...

If you don't hear from me until tamarra... well, just picture me cursing at a server. :D
